WorkWhile Background Check and Drug Screening
As part of our commitment to safety and compliance, all new workers must successfully pass a background check before they can begin working.
We have partnered with Yardstik, a leading provider of background screening solutions, to conduct this process.
How It Works: Background Check and Drug Screening
Initiation: To initiate your background check, attempt to accept your first shift in the WorkWhile app. If no shifts are visible, wait until an eligible shift appears, as this will trigger the background check process. Once triggered, we will initiate your background check with Yardstik, and you will receive an email from Yardstik with a link to a secure portal. You will not be scheduled for the first shift you attempt to accept while the background check is pending. Once approved, you can re-accept the shift.
Information Submission: You will provide your personal information and consent for the background check and drug screening.
Screening: Yardstik's system will then perform a comprehensive search, which may include:
National and county criminal record searches.
National Sex Offender Registry.
Global Watch Lists and SSN Trace.
Federal criminal record search.
Motor vehicle/driving record information.
Other screenings as required by the role.- Identity verification (via Persona).
Drug Screening: Certain positions may necessitate a drug screening. This test could require a visit to a nearby clinic or may be conducted on-site.
Checking the Status of Your Background Check
We understand you're eager to get started. You can check the real-time status of your background check directly through Yardstik's secure candidate portal. You can also track the status of your motor vehicle records (MVR) check through the same portal.
Yardstik Candidate Portal: Visit profile.yardstik.com and log in using the email address you provided for your application. From there, you can view the current status of your report and see if any additional information is needed.
Background Check Turnaround Times
The majority of background checks and drug screens are completed within 3-5 business days. However, some checks may be completed within hours, while others could take longer than 5 days if records must be retrieved in person.
County courthouse delays: Some counties require manual searches, which can add to the processing time.
Information discrepancies: If the information you provided is incomplete or inaccurate, Yardstik may need to request additional details from you, which can cause a delay.- Multiple components: Checks like MVRs may take longer to process than others.

Do I need to complete a background check for every shift? No, once your background check is completed, you do not need to repeat it for future shifts. How can I resolve a stalled background check? Check your email for any requests from the provider and respond promptly. You can also log into the status portal to provide any missing information.
While most checks are completed quickly, please be patient as we cannot expedite the process. If your background check is denied, you will receive a Pre-Adverse Action email with instructions to dispute inaccuracies or provide context. Respond by the specified deadline to ensure your case is reviewed. If your background check appears delayed, avoid attempting to reset it, as this could cause further delays. Instead, track its status through the provider’s portal and ensure all requested documents are submitted. This is because the process is managed externally by a third-party provider for privacy and security reasons.
